If you’ve been staring at your skin in the mirror thinking, “I just want it to look smoother, clearer, and more even,” you’re not alone.
At Erase & Embrace in Temecula, two of the most effective treatments we offer for skin rejuvenation are microneedling and laser resurfacing. But they work in very different ways—and knowing which one is right for you comes down to your skin’s needs, your comfort with downtime, and the results you’re after.
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling uses a device with tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These “injuries” trigger your body’s natural healing response, boosting collagen and elastin production.
At Erase & Embrace Tattoo Removal, we use the Candela Exceed, an FDA-cleared device known for results with minimal downtime.
Best for:
- Acne scars
- Fine lines
- Enlarged pores
- Overall skin texture and tone
Downtime:
Usually 1–2 days of redness, like a mild sunburn.
You’ll start seeing results in a few weeks, with collagen continuing to rebuild for months.
What Is Laser Resurfacing?
Laser resurfacing uses focused light energy to vaporize damaged skin cells and stimulate deep dermal renewal. We use fractional lasers, which treat skin in microscopic columns—leaving healthy tissue in between for faster healing.
There are two main types:
- Ablative lasers (more aggressive, more downtime)
- Non-ablative lasers (gentler, less downtime)
Best for:
- Deeper wrinkles
- Sun damage
- Pigmentation
- Advanced acne scarring
- Skin laxity
Downtime:
Ranges from 3–7 days depending on the intensity.
Results can be more dramatic than microneedling, especially after a series.
Side-by-Side Comparison
Feature | Microneedling | Laser Resurfacing |
---|---|---|
Targets | Texture, scars, pores | Wrinkles, pigment, sun damage |
Depth | Controlled mechanical injury | Thermal energy at varying depths |
Pain level | Mild with numbing cream | Mild to moderate, depends on type |
Downtime | 1–2 days of redness | 3–7 days of redness + peeling |
# of sessions | 3–6 sessions | 1–3 sessions (more spaced out) |
Safe for all skin tones? | ✅ Yes | ⚠️ Depends on laser type |
So… Which One Is Better?
Here’s the thing: neither is “better”—just better suited to your skin.
Choose microneedling if:
- You want to improve skin texture and mild scarring
- You’re new to medical-grade skincare
- You want low downtime and safe treatment for all skin types
Choose laser resurfacing if:
- You have deeper wrinkles or significant sun damage
- You want faster, more dramatic results
- You’re okay with a bit more downtime
Bonus: many of our clients alternate between the two in a customized treatment plan. We often do microneedling for collagen-building and laser for pigment or deeper texture correction.
